Kathryn Phillips is an Occupational Therapist offering an exceptional hand therapy service. Assessment and treatment of the whole upper quadrant, including proximal and core strengthening for optimal and quick return to full function for athletes, work injuries, and for those who simply want their best outcome.

 

Since graduating as an Occupational Therapist in 1999, Kathryn has undertaken extensive further training in soft tissue injury management (Post Grad Cert, James Cook University 2013; Fascial Manipulation Stecco method; Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation) and has been an Accredited Hand Therapist (as per Australian Hand Therapy Association) since 2014. 


Kathryn has taught undergraduate hand therapy and anatomy/palpation and she currently helps teach Trauma courses for the Australian Hand Therapy Association (AHTA). She has a contagious enthusiasm when teaching allied health colleagues, students and her clients about how incredible and interconnected our clever bodies are.


Kathryn is one of WASOs (Western Australian Symphony Orchestra) preferred OT providers, and is passionate about delivering quality and effective management to ensure the best outcomes for professional and amateur musicians. 


Kathryn addresses the body holistically, encompassing self-administered and therapist applied neuromuscular therapy techniques, stress management and healthy lifestyle as part of her care regime. She is passionate about teaching the importance of posture, stretching and ergonomics, well before mild symptoms become more severe.


Hand and Upper Limb Therapy Services

Commonly seen hand and upper limb conditions include: 

  • osteoarthritis (finger, thumb, wrist, elbow, shoulder) 
  • wrist fracture (post op and conservatively managed) 
  • finger dislocations 
  • post op rehab after tendon/nerve/bone repair 
  • elbow pain (tennis elbow, golfers elbow)
  • rotator cuff related pain (shoulder impingement pain)
  • carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome and other nerve compressions
  • thoracic outlet syndrome (nerve pain coming from compression between neck and armpit)
  • cervical radiculopathy referring pain to arm
  • myofascial referred pain in forearm
  • scar management
  • second opinions for proximal causes of hand pain
  • custom thermoplastic and pre-fab orthoses used 





We accept EPC, Workers Comp/ICWA and DVA clients with GP referral.


Private patients do not need a referral, and payment is required on the day. HICAPS is available for consult fee. Please check with your private health insurance provider whether OT and custom orthoses are covered.


Extended Initial Consult (up to 90min) - assessment of either acute multi-trauma injury or chronic (>6 weeks duration) hand/upper limb condition. Shoulder girdle stability, core stability and other factors are assessed that may be contributing to presenting condition. Treatment and education provided in email and video format. Provision of orthoses if indicated.


Standard Initial Consult (up to 45min) - assessment of acute (new) hand injury. Provision of orthoses if indicated and home exercise program via email and video format.
